FLEX-SILŽ Design Options
Cannelure Backed or Dual Rib Design
FLEX-SILŽ separators with a cannelure rib
design are available. FLEX-SILŽ separators having cannelure ribs
against the negative plate have been shown to improve the performance
and life of deep cycle batteries. FLEX-SILŽ separators with dual
ribs are used for traction batteries. The dual rib concept is
based on a separator design where relatively large negative ribs
with wider spacing than cannelure ribs are used in addition to
regular positive ribs. This design not only permits improved gas
and electrolyte transportation, but also reduces the possiblity
of oxidative degradation of the separator due to reduced contact
areas between the separator and plate.
